2009 National GRAMMY Signature School

The Music Departmnt at MHS has been named the 2009 National GRAMMY Signature School by the GRAMMY Foundation. Congraulations to all MHS Music Students on this TREMENDOUS accomplishment.

The GRAMMY Awards Presentation Concert will be held on May 12 at the MetroCenter. The concert will begin at 7 pm and will feature the MHS Jazz Ensemble, Chorale, Wind Symphony and Symphony Orchestra. Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for children. Tickets will be sold at the door as well as limited pre-sales. More information coming soon!!

Senior Honor Concert

The Senior Honor Concert (Spring Concert) for all orchestras is on May 15 at Martin HS. The concert begins at 6:30 pm.

Spring Orchestra Banquet

Our Spring Orchestra Banquet is May 16 at the Courtyard Villa in Arlington. The banquet starts at 7 pm. Seating begins at 6:30.

UIL Concert and Sightreading Results

On March 11 and 12 the MHS Orchestras competed in the UIL Region V Concert and Sightreading Contest held at Bowie HS. Results are:

    Congratulations to the 49 MHS Orchestra Students who received 1st Divisions on their solos at UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest!

    Martin HS had 9 students make the All State Orchestra. This ties last year's school record for all staters from MHS!! Congrats to these very deserving students. We are VERY proud of you!!

    MHS takes 27 spots in the TMEA Region V 9th Grade Orchestra. A big congratulations to these students for being selected to this prestigious organization.

    Congratulations to the Martin HS Symphony Orchestra for making the FINALS of the TMEA HS String Honor Orchestra Competition. The MHS Symphony finished 5th in the state of Texas.

    Congratulations also to the 22 members and 5 alternates of the TMEA Region V HS Symphony Orchestra. Martin had the most students in the region place in the ochestra.

 

About the Martin HS Orchestras

The string instrument program of Martin High School began in 1982 with an initial enrollment of 8 students. Today, Martin HS has over 225 students enrolled in the orchestra program. Students in the MHS orchestra program participate in UIL Region V Solo & Concert Contests and the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Orchestras and Bands.
